New Jersey taxpayers pay more than $100 million a year to support a dozen subpar nursing homes that put their residents’ safety and well-being at risk, according to the latest in a series of scathing reports by the Office of the State Comptroller.
But Kevin Walsh, the acting State Comptroller, was equally critical of the state Department of Health, which licenses and inspects nursing homes, and the Department of Human Services, the agency that doles out $1.72 billion a year from the state and federally funded Medicaid program.
